I just responded with this to someones ask about how to help one understand rape culture. How do you think it sounds?

(Please keep in mind that I was limited with characters and the end is slightly off.)

“I would add that this rape culture doesn’t only manifest itself in direct sexual assault and rape. It includes the stares up and down and the “cat calls.” The fact that women are often scared to go out tonight. Are advised that having tons of sex is “whorey” but not having sex at all is being a prude. Rape culture is more than the fact that rape jokes are made and laughed at everyday. I feel that it’s the subtle actions that are most prominent and aren’t discussed that bother me the most. “

I would have also liked to add that often when women are raped, sexually abused/assaulted, or beat they are often asked, “What did you do? What were you wearing?” This is also part of rape culture.
